A brief history of the Club
The City of Truro Rifle Club first started life as the 10th Battalion Home Guard Rifle and Social Club on the 14th November 1944. The first chairman was Colonel H Carey Morgan who later went on to be President. Colonel Carey Morgan’s trophy is still shot for in the club, as is Capt Bennett Webb’s.
0.22" calibre rifle shooting took place on two different ranges, Hendra Drill Hall and Moresk Drill Hall, and the club also shot 0.303" at Idless range where some of the target changers can still be seen as you walk along the bottom path beside the stream. Here they shot at 100, 200 and 300 yards. The Home Guard shot on various ranges around the county including Gerrans, Feock, Hayle and Penzance to name but a few and had members from all around the county.
The club changed its name twice over the first couple of years; the first name change came about in May 1952 when it was changed to Truro Battalion Home Guard 1944 Rifle club. It was then changed to its current name The City of Truro Rifle Club in April 1956.
